Where perennials shape spaces
Last late summer, we already got a taste of the impact of the newly designed perennial beds around our seating area. The plants grew densely together in their first season, and this year they are really shooting up. Angelica and cardoons with their striking, spherical heads tower above everything else, surrounded by countless delicate yellow flowers of the giant scabious. All three perennials not only reach impressive heights of up to two meters, but also lend structure to the lower levels with their lush foliage. The climbing roses of the ‘Ghislaine de Feligonde’ variety are expected to eventually reach eye level with these giants in the bed and are well on their way to doing so. The lower area is currently home to lupins, the penstemon ‘Huskers Red,’ the beautiful rose ‘The Lark Ascending,’ purple toadflax, and the last blooms of white cranesbill.
