JUL 2024
Like painted with watercolors
In recent weeks, the focus in the new perennial beds around the seating area has shifted from imposing, expansive plants to more delicate ones. They blend softly, transparently, and with subtle movement into the planting. The result is a delicate interplay of different shapes in the foliage and flowers. Silver-green, spherical, almost architectural-looking rattlesnake master stands between airy epilobium; the softly falling, narrow flowers of Echinacea pallida ‘Hula Dancer’ rise above veils of plume poppies. In between, the plump rose blossoms shine tirelessly, winding their way through everything with a delicate presence. In the bright sunlight, the bed looks as if it has been painted in watercolor.
Particularly beautiful at this time of year are the ground cover plants that move lively through the bed thanks to self-seeding: white mullein, wild carrots ‘Dara’ and yellow scabious, which echo the light yellow, floating heads of the giant scabious in the lower part of the bed in a smaller form.
