OCT 2025

The first frost today has enchanted the cut flower garden in the morning twilight and ended the dahlia season. With the warming rays of the sun, the crust of ice melts from the flowers and the field, which was still colorful yesterday, turns into brown mud within hours. Even the slightest frost causes the plants above ground to die.

Over the next few days, we will dig up the tubers, wash them, dry them on racks, label them, store them in mineral substrate, and put them in the shed. Leaving the dahlia tubers in the ground and covering them with leaves, for example, is too risky in our region, where temperatures can drop to -18 degrees Celsius. In addition, they can be forced in the greenhouse in spring to extend the season a little. Replanting every year also has the advantage of allowing us to redesign the cut flower beds again and again.
