JUL 2024

In July, the time begins in the vegetable garden when we no longer ask ourselves what we want to harvest today, but what we have to harvest. The beds are bursting at the seams and many things are now ripening at the same time.

The first onions are already drying on racks. The white “Sturon” onions in particular are gigantic this year. The garlic is interesting: due to the wet and cold start to the season, it is struggling with rust. The bulbs planted last fall have nevertheless grown well, while those planted in the spring have barely formed individual cloves and still had to be removed from the beds. Every year is different and remains exciting.

The numerous flowers in the vegetable garden are particularly beautiful to look at. Marigolds grow between white cabbage and pointed cabbage, white nasturtiums snake their way around the corn cobs and the pumpkin trellises. Mallows are in full bloom and are visited by bees just as much as the borage. The delicate yellow of the bronze fennel is framed by flowering marjoram, and the airy flowers of coriander appear again and again among the vegetables.
