The first frost seems to preserve the last splashes of autumn colour under its sparkling ice crystals. A brief illusion that usually quickly turns into the opposite as soon as the warm beams of sunshine cause everything to thaw. The ice crystals destroy the cells in sensitive plants, which means they can no longer maintain their metabolism and die. This is the latest time for us to prepare the remaining beds for the approaching winter.
